Art Hives

What’s all the buzz about?  Busy little bees, coming together to connect and create in a studio environment.  They are building communities by making art.  Art hives are championed by art therapist Janis Timm-Bottos, PhD, ATR-BC, PT.  These spaces offer free artistic opportunities for anyone, regardless of societal barriers that are often used to segregate people into “included” and “excluded” groups.  This covers those who think of themselves as creative and those who don’t!  One of the primary beliefs underlying the art hive movement is that all individuals are inherently creative and that this creative potential unites us.  Although operating an art hive does not mean that one is offering art therapy services, several art hives actually are facilitated by art therapists.  One such hive has been established by art therapist Sondra Goldman, ATR, at the Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre in Montreal.

For more information about art hives, please visit the Art Hives website: http://arthives.org/.  You’ll find that Canada beats the pants off of the U.S. when it comes to established hives, and Texas has only one—in its highly creative capital, Austin!  Imagine Arts invites Austinites to imagine the possibility of the arts in every life…perhaps even yours?

With appreciation for the important work you do,
